[01]  The House

Built in 1974, kept honest ever since

Solstice House began as a working ranch house on a shelf of rock facing due west. Three generations later the bones are the same — rammed earth, oiled pine, deep-set windows that frame the valley rather than fight it.

There is no lobby music, no marble. What there is: forty-two rooms that all catch the last hour of sun, a bath house over the original spring, and a small kitchen crew who shop the Thursday market in the valley and cook whatever they find.

[02]  What's here

Everything the ridge asks for, nothing it doesn't

All experiences
01

The Bath House

Two spring-fed pools at 38°C, a cold plunge, and a cedar steam room built over the original well. Open from six.

02

Ridge Kitchen

Thirty covers, one changing menu, an open hearth. Breakfast until eleven, supper from six-thirty, no phones on the table.

03

Guided Walks

Fourteen marked routes from the door, from a forty-minute loop to the full escarpment traverse. Dawn walks leave at 6:15.

04

Treatment Rooms

Four rooms above the bath house. Deep tissue, hot stone, and a two-hour ridge ritual using oils pressed in the valley.

05

The Cellar

Four hundred labels, weighted heavily to the central coast. Thursday tastings in the vault, sixteen seats, no charge for residents.

06

The Long Table

A private room for twelve to twenty-four, with its own terrace and fire. Used for everything from board days to birthdays.

Our Most Popular Rooms

Forty-two rooms cut into the escarpment, every one of them facing the last hour of light over the valley.

Highlights

Inspired Incentives

A house on the western escarpment, forty minutes from the valley floor and a morning's walk from the ridge line — equally suited to a long weekend or a week of doing very little.

[04]  The Bath House

Water first. Everything else after.

The spring under this ridge has run at 38°C for as long as anyone has measured it. In 1981 we built two pools over it and, mostly, left it alone.

Thermal & cold circuit

Two hot pools, one 11°C plunge, cedar steam. Ninety minutes is the recommended loop.

Open 06:00 – 22:00

Residents only before nine. Towels, robes and cold tea are laid out at the door.

Four treatment rooms

Book at least a day ahead in season — there are only ever eight slots a day.

Two minutes on the ridge

The valley turns gold at 6:40. We hold supper until it's done.

Nine hundred reviews, one recurring word: quiet

We came for two nights and moved things around at work to stay five. The bath house at seven in the morning, with nobody in it, is worth the drive on its own.

Marianne OseiCanyon Suite · March

The kitchen asked what we'd eaten the night before so they wouldn't repeat it. That's the level of attention, and it never once felt fussy.

Tobias LindqvistThe Long Room · October

Went alone, worked in the mornings, walked the escarpment at four. Nobody made a thing of a solo booking, which is rarer than it should be.
